How we got to where we are today.
Key Financial Solutions started with a simple idea: financial advice should make sense to the person receiving it.
Over the past 25+ years, we’ve built a practice grounded in plain speaking, proper planning, and genuine relationships with our clients. We’ve seen markets rise and fall, legislation come and go, and more than a few “next big things” that turned out to be nothing of the sort.
Through all of it, we’ve stayed focused on the same thing — looking after people’s money like it matters. Because it does.
We’re based in Whakatāne with clients across the Eastern Bay of Plenty and Gisborne. Our doors are open, our phones are on, and we still believe the best financial advice happens face to face.

We’re a team of financial advisers based in Whakatāne, serving clients across the Eastern Bay of Plenty and Gisborne. We’ve been at this for over 25 years, and we haven’t lost our edge.
We’re led by our Senior Financial Advisor and Director Hayley, who has been part of the Key Financial Solutions whānau since 2002. Alongside Hayley, Anne keeps the engine running as our Tax and Office Administrator, and Val brings a wealth of legal expertise to her role as Trust and Estate Administrator. Between the three of them, there’s very little they haven’t seen in the finance industry.
Meet Hayley.

Hayley didn’t land in finance by accident. She started at Key Financial Solutions in 2002 as an office junior, knew pretty much immediately this was where she wanted to build her career, and went on to study for her Graduate Diploma in Business Studies in Personal Financial Planning. She became an Authorised Financial Adviser in 2018, and took over the business from founder Rae in 2024.
That’s over two decades of watching how this industry works, what clients actually need, and what good advice looks like in practice, not just on paper.
She works across investments, insurance, KiwiSaver, trusts, and tax, so when clients say “I’ve got a unique situation,” Hayley’s across it. What she loves most about the role is that no two days are the same. One client might be looking at protecting a family farm for the next generation. Another is sorting their first KiwiSaver and has no idea where to start.
Hayley meets people where they’re at, keeps things lighthearted and relatable to their situation.
